Consultation on Draft Planning Brief

24th January to the 8th March 2010

Land at Stones Farm, Sittingbourne – located between Peel Drive to the west and Tonge Stream to the east - is owned jointly by G H Dean & Co and St John’s College, Cambridge.  The majority of the site is owned by G H Dean & Co except for a small rectangular parcel of land off Peel Drive.

The Stones Farm site was allocated for about 600 houses and 15 ha of informal public open space in the Swale Borough Local Plan 2008.  Also, the Plan’s policies required the preparation of a Development Brief to resolve various detailed issues and to guide the preparation of future planning applications.

G H Dean & Co is a long established local farming business centred on its main farm at Hempstead Lane, Bapchild.  Consistent with the initial preparation of most Development Briefs in Swale by the landowner, G H Dean & Co has commissioned the preparation of this Consultation Draft Brief.  The Consultation Draft Development Brief represents the first stage in the preparation of the required Development Brief and, in due course, having taken account of views and comments following consultation, the amended document will be submitted to Swale Borough Council.  In turn, the Borough Council may wish to undertake further public consultation before finally adopting a Development Brief as a Supplementary Planning Document to the Development Plan.

Please have a look at the whole of the document and let us know what you think.

Tuesday 26th January 2.00pm – 6.00pm

The closing date for comments is the 8th March 2010.
